Also, it’s confusing that an Island distillery is named Highland Park It’s very good, especially at its price point, but there are too many whiskies that hit these same notes in a more interesting way for me to keep a bottle around regularly.

I recently picked up a bottle of “Highland Park 12 Viking Honour” – fabulous bottle design and box. HP 12 was for years one of my top 5 whiskies, especially in the old slope-shouldered midnight-sun labelled days.
Overall, it tastes more like a Highland malt than an Island one. Also, it’s confusing that an Island distillery is named Highland Park It’s very good, especially at its price point, but there are too many whiskies that hit these same notes in a more interesting way for me to keep a bottle around regularly. HIGHLAND PARK 10 - VIKING SCARS. The sherry in this is actually quite nice once it sweetens up, nutty and deep, but the malt itself is a bit harsh at this age, and the combination of the peat and the wood here is sour. HP12 also has a degree of sourness to it, but it's far more pronounced in the 10. Water does not help. Nor does aeration.

4-3-2018 · A review of Highland Park's 12 year old Viking Honour. So true, and sorry to hear you didn’t get a hold of the 43% version! I see Highland Park as a nice dram to ease friends who are new to whisky into the smokier side of things. The Viking Honour is the most timid and less focused of the trio. It lacks the depth and range of flavours when pitched against its forebearers. It’s still a solid single malt – especially as an entry level introduction to Highland Park – but the weak runt of the litter compared to bygone decades.
